...begins with being burned out of hospital and interviewed live on BBC Radio5 live and News 24, for the web / later broadcast by BBC (different lot)and the Press Association, and by The Guardian. I refused the gutter press (with glee when Murdoch-owned).
A brief report, interview and some of my pictures are on the bbc
I am well and available for other speaking opportunities!

Paul, after watching this evening's news people are saying "....is that your Paul?!!"
We saw your longer interview on BBC News24 when you were able to praise up the Marsden hospital. We were all impressed by your calmness in adversity and eloquent explanation of the unfolding situation!!
Hopefully this slight delay will let your blood build up before they hit you with the next load of chemo.
Here's to a great 2008 for you. Tony, Maggy, Anne and Andy xxxx
first you get out of christmas shopping and now you get out of having to have chemo!!! glad you're safe and well. and fundraising for the marsden!
by the way, can I have your autograph?!
nephew andy x
Have you got the car that goes with the hat? !!!
Good to see you again and looking so well.
Best wishes to you, Daniela and all the family.
Love Brenda and Ken Stewart
The lenghths you'll go to to get a speaking assignment!
Happy 2008
Justine, Lee, Eva and Oscar xxxx
Paul, the 'oven ready' comment was pure comedy... (all that was missing was some well-timed canned laughter)!
Wishing you and your family a great 2008.
Lee
Being a news addict and regular insomniac, there I was watching BBC 24 at 2.15 this morning, and who should pop up on my TV screen in a very fetching red hat?!?
Good photos too!
Keep well :-)

Hi Paul,
Saw you on the telly last night...Twice!! I noticed that they were even showing YOUR pictures of the fire. They'll be putting you in charge of the news team next!
What a terribly sad situation for the hospital, and I do hope it does not cause too much delay and upset for patients and staff.
It was great to have you swimming with us at the Leisure session last Saturday.
Best wishes,
Wendy, John and Martin.
Any opportunity to get into the lime light! We'll be seeing you present the news next!
Hope that you're xmas wasn't too disrupted and all the best for 2008.
Love Teresa, Mario & Andre (& bump) xx
Paul, you'll do just about anything to get on camera, won't you? We've talked to you about playing with matches!
No, seriously, what a horrid situation. Thankfully so few were hurt...they said just 3, yes?
Glad you're okay! Always love to hear from you. Next time you needn't wait for national news to break (with you in it) in order to blog. Love ya, your US friends...Michelle and crew
Paul when I heard the reporter say Paul O'Byrne, I thought no, it can't be but then when he said someone was taking photos I knew it could only be you. Didn't even know about the funny hat then
Hi Paul,
Happy New Year! Good to see you started how you plan to finish, speaking in public.
glad you are continuing to impove.

Hi Paul, just found this latest blog but already left a message on the previous batch and now have to get back to work so please look back to the December comments! Danuta x
Hi Paul,
well i said we would drop in and see you while we were in the UK, but I didn't expect it would be on the TV. Personally i thought you looked pretty dapper in the little hat, and were very eloquent on such short notice!
a couple of the kids came down with that awful gastro bug as soon as we arrived in London, so i thought we'd take pity on your immune system and avoid the personal contact, but your 'news' spot was a treat (of course ignoring the terrible circumstances that prompted it).
I'm so glad to hear things are moving in the right direction with your treatment. we all continue to pray for a grand recovery.
all the best to you, Daniela and the family.
regards
Bronwyn, Roger & Tribe
Hi Uncle Paul,
You were referenced in the Metro too BTW, i've still got the copy if you want it?
I moved to fulham last weekend so now live up the road from the Royal Marsden so let me know when you're in there and I'll come and visit you.
Glad the hair's growing back,
lots of love,
Trudie
Hello!!
It's Annie and Claire, your favourite Marsden Nurses!! We're working late, and we were sitting here wondering just how you are because you are our favourite patient and we miss you SO much!! We hope you are keeping well, how's the treatment going? Are they treating you well??!!
Where are you having your treatment?? This is a secret. but wilson is opening again on the 11th....you could ask to come home to us!!!
Hope to see you soon!
love Annie and Claire xxxxxxxxx
Hi Paul, I'm not quite sure how this will go - its such a long way to the UK! Thanks for the card comments from you and Daniela. Shirley and I talk of you often. Will it be the grandkids that we host next - whatever, they will be welcome!
Stay well.
Love to all
Shirley and Noel Kiwi
Hey - it worked, not bad for a techna-phobe. Now I can be a bit more forthcoming with my messages - man hugs and all that stuff.
Hi Paul
I was talking about Ron to someone and mentioned you and thought I would look you up. Found all this - 'nuff said.
If youy fancy a chat I am still at the old place
